THE CITADEL OFPORTO-VECCHIO
There are two main ways to explore Porto-Vecchio. On one side, there is the harbour and the maritime atmosphere, which is very pleasant for a stroll. On the other side lies the upper town, dominated by the citadel, which encompasses the historic centre with its ramparts, squares and narrow streets.The best way to explore the citadel is on foot, without following a set route; the point of the visit is to take your time as you walk through the old town and soak up its atmosphere.
The vaulted passageways, small squares, bastions and viewpoints make for a stroll in its own right. The ramparts mark the boundary of the upper town and offer unobstructed views of the gulf and the open sea.
Some practical information
Porto-Vecchio is located approximately 5 km from Camping U Pirellu. The journey by car takes around 10 minutes, depending on traffic. In summer, it may be easier to park on the outskirts and reach the old town on foot or by shuttle bus.
