Hikes in the Alta Rocca area
Another face of southern Corsica, Alta Rocca is a region of mountains and low-lying hills, located just above the Porto-Vecchio coastline, where people often come to enjoy a real break from it all. Here, the air is cooler, the landscapes more rugged, and the atmosphere gives way to winding roads, forests and hilltop villages. Here, you discover a more rural, more intimate Corsica, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the beaches.
From Porto-Vecchio, the journeys to Zonza and the Alta Rocca valleys are easy to make by car, with distances that are still manageable for a day trip.
Key villages: Zonza, Levie, Quenza
Zonza is often the first village you reach when coming from the coast, and it makes a good starting point for exploring the area. A little further down, Levie is home to the Alta Rocca Museum and provides a good base for visiting prehistoric sites. Further west, Quenza provides access to less frequented trails.
