Hikes in the Alta Rocca area

Another face of southern Corsica, Alta Rocca is a region of mountains and low-lying hills, located just above the Porto-Vecchio coastline, where people often come to enjoy a real break from it all.

Here, the air is cooler, the landscapes more rugged, and the atmosphere gives way to winding roads, forests and hilltop villages. Here, you discover a more rural, more intimate Corsica, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the beaches.

From Porto-Vecchio, the journeys to Zonza and the Alta Rocca valleys are easy to make by car, with distances that are still manageable for a day trip.

Key villages: Zonza, Levie, Quenza

Zonza is often the first village you reach when coming from the coast, and it makes a good starting point for exploring the area. A little further down, Levie is home to the Alta Rocca Museum and provides a good base for visiting prehistoric sites. Further west, Quenza provides access to less frequented trails.

The Cucuruzzu and Capula sites

These Castellu sites bear witness to human occupation dating back to the Bronze Age. Cucuruzzu is the more impressive of the two: a granite chaos that was inhabited and developed, with dry-stone structures still standing.
